Tranny fluid in engine for sludge

Is it safe to use automatic transmission fluid as an engine flush? Any highly distilled petroleum solvent like gasoline can do the same thing. You can do this as much as you want but it's a lot of money to do it every day until it's gone. Some of these are better then others. Is there any validity to it?
